Description
Our beautiful green cazuelas have an elegant dappled glaze and rustic beauty. They are perfect for serving tapas or cooking your favorite dish. These traditional terra cotta dishes bring the joy of Spain to your table.
In Spain, cazuelas are the oven-to-table ceramic, with thick terra cotta acting to keep the dish warm. We also use these large cazuelas to serve side dishes and hearty tapas.
Our ceramic cazuelas are solid terra cotta with hand-formed handles. These casserole dishes are food safe and lead free.
Our cazuelas come from the town of Breda in Catalunya, where terra cotta kitchenware has been the standard since Roman times. The local clay is ideal for making sturdy terra cotta that holds heat, keeping meals warm even after the dish is brought to the dining table.
As each piece is hand painted, the exact color may vary.
Note: Always heat or cool cazuelas very slowly or they will break. Never add a cazuela to a high heat oven or burner and do not move hot cazuelas to a refrigerator or submerge in water as this can cause cracks or breakage.
FAQ
FAQ
How do I prepare my cazuela for cooking?
1. Soak the entire piece in water for at least 2 hours or overnight.
2. Drain and wipe dry.
3. Fill your cazuela with water.
4. Place over low heat on the stove and very slowly bring the water to a boil. (Use a heat diffuser for gas stoves.)
5. Let the water boil down until only a little remains. Do not allow all the water to evaporate as this may cause your cazuela to crack.
6. Cool slowly, then wash by hand.
Is the cazuela ready for use after preparation?
Yes, once cured, the cazuela can be used in the oven or on the stovetop. Always heat and cool gradually to prevent cracking.
What precautions should I take during use?
Avoid sudden temperature changes, as these may cause the cazuela to break. If using a gas stove, always cook with a heat diffuser. Discoloration may occur with use. Always wash by hand.
What if my cazuela hasn’t been used in a long time?
If your cazuela hasn’t been used for cooking in a while, it should be cured again before use to protect against damage.
