We discovered our favorite new chocolate bar when we sampled this turrón. This block of rich dark chocolate is studded with crunchy toasted almonds - a fine start! But then the more subtle flavors kick in: Maldon sea salt awakens the taste buds to the hint of black pepper, paprika and a sprinkle of crunchy tomato powder. These unexpected notes play beneath the dominant dark chocolate and almond flavors, elevating them to a new level without distracting the palate.

This big bar of chocolate goodness is large enough to share, so serve it at your next wine and cheese party, or as a delightful dessert with coffee or a glass of sparkling cava.

Since 1775, the candy masters at Vicens have made excellent turrón candy in the village of Agramunt. They are also curious and enjoy playing with innovative combinations, improvising new candies while referencing the more traditional turrón styles.

In 2016, Angel Velasco, the master turrón maker at Vicens, was awarded the title of “Best Pastry Chef in the World” at the prestigious Madrid Fusion food show. He was joined on stage by famed pastry chef Albert Adrià, who collaborated with him to create a line of dynamic new turrón flavors, such as Gin Tonic and Arroz con Leche, which are available at La Tienda.

Turrón from Agramunt has protected status (PGI) to ensure the quality and the candy-making tradition are protected from imitations. Turrón with this status must follow strict methods and must be made in the village of Agramunt.

These high quality chocolates have been tested and are well below the limits for substances with potential health concerns outlined in California’s stringent Prop65 requirements.
