Tortas de aceite crisps are a delight for both locals and tourists in Spain, so much that the Sevilla crisp is now sought around the world! Within each familiar wax paper package lies a delicious olive oil crisp with a light crispy crunch unlike any other. Here we have five different versions of this satisfying treat for you to enjoy.
Tortas de aceite were first rolled out by hand in 1910, when an enterprising baker started selling them in Sevilla. Soon she had to recruit local women to keep up with demand! The handmade cookies, made with flour and olive oil, have been a huge hit since.
This selection includes a wide range of flavors, both savory and sweet. The classic tortas de aceite are lightly sweet, with a hint of anise. We included two other sweet versions, one with sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and the other with the essence of Sevilla oranges. Sweet tortas are often served with coffee across Andalucía, and are a wonderful dessert or breakfast treat!
The savory versions are just as satisfying. We like to serve the rosemary and thyme tortas with a platter of Spanish cheese or chorizo slices, while the sesame and sea salt tortas are great for dipping in spreads like hummus.
Golden-brown tortas de aceite are one of Sevilla’s most beloved foods. These crispy treats are a favorite in our family, and we hope they’ll soon be in yours!
Each of the 5 packages of tortas in this sampler contains 6 individually wrapped pieces.
